Back to school for the demolition team

Erith expert talks demolition with Arnhem Wharf Primary School.

On Wednesday 12th July, demolition expert, Mark Jack, attended Arnhem Wharf Primary School to give a unique lesson on the work the pupils have witnessed on the neighbouring site over the last few months.

With the demolition work at Westferry Printworks site almost complete, Mark was keen to attend the school’s ‘Interesting People, Interesting Jobs’ assembly to help the pupils understand what all the work has been about.

The pupils learnt about the different demolition phases and why safety is so important, and were taught about the different machines used to remove the building and minimise the dust.

Mark, Regional Operations Manager at Erith Contractors, said: “The children particularly enjoyed trying on the protective goggles, gloves, high-vis jackets, hard hats and rather large boots. I think we’ve lined up a few new recruits for the future.”

The Westferry Printworks’ team plan to support the school regularly by giving presentations on the variety and importance of jobs in construction to inspire the young people as they grow up seeing the site develop.
